Mind map

Costume collections in V&A museum include over 3,500 stage costumes and accessories in every kind of performance dating from the mid-18th century to today. However, I have found that it only contains ancient Asian costumes from 18th to early 20th century.

Thus, I want to create an object based on Passion Tour for adding costumes of modern Asian performance to Costume collection.

As the concert is in the form of stage play, which shows an angel's rebellion against god and finally become his own god. This art performance concept probably resonate with Nietzsche's phrase ' God is dead '. Nietzsche used the phrase to express his challenge to the concept of god under Western European civilisation, which is a revolt of traditional constraints. After breaking the faith in God, the loss of an absolute basis for morality brings nihilism. He believed that human need to re-evaluate their values and create their own values as individual.

At passion Tour, Leslie Cheung challenge the traditional definition of men the women, which received many negative comments from media, such as "transvestism", "mental disorder", "affront to pulic decency", "like a female ghost". He used the song 'The Hymn of Water Fairies'  as the end of the concert. The lyrics of this song " I am what I am " expressed his confidence of being himself and resisting on his art concept.

I have decided the object form could be a creative zine. Some sketches could be added into inside pages.

The design concept 'From Angel to Devil' icon could be added on cover.

This is the order of performance, following the costume design concept: From Angel to Devil.

Second tutorial with Naama. She suggested that my outcome doesn't have to be a zine, though which is good for me because I am interested in graphic publications; it can be a series of costume manuscripts. Manuscripts show better understanding of the Costume collection, which is a very helpful suggestion. So I am thinking about making a series of creative manuscripts, maybe some combinations of digital icons and paintings.

The painting technique doesn't have to be professional, like a photograph or portrayal. It can be abstract, or just mixed of colours to express the theme.

Some design concept research with sketches and icons created by myself.

trying some sketches of fashion design.

Some research of abstract art.

trying to create some mixed random colours in the theme of Passion Tour.
